Creating Your Own Paint Shop Pro Picture Tubes

Article by Doug Cruver

This tutorial is based on my own experience, And, each step was tested in Paint Shop Pro Version 7. When creating a new picture tube for use in Paint shop, I have found that the following steps produce great results.

1). Collect information on what size and how many separate pictures or images will be in your picture tube, in this example we will only be using 3 very simple circles of various sizes.

2). Create a new image with a transparent background

{a}. left click on the file menu in the upper left corner of the paint shop window, and select NEW. As depicted below.

{b}. In the dialog box, that is looks like the one below on the right. Type in the height and width desired for your picture tube.
(The height should be the same as, or a multiple of, the height of your images, including the desired blank space around each image.)
(The width should be a multiple of the width of your images, also including any blank space around the image.)

[In my example I have selected 900 pixels for the width and 300 pixels for the height, This will be enough space for 3 images across, of 300 X 300 pixels each.]

3). In the View menu, select "change grid and guide properties" as shown below. In the dialog box that is also shown below on the right, select the height and width of only one of your images.

Now in the squares that show on our example new file, I have used 3 simple circles of different sizes, you can use any image of the same size or create new images to fill each square…..[ Hint ]….copy and paste as new selection works wonderfully.

3 Simple Circles

After you have placed the images in the squares, select "Export as picture tube" from the file menu, as depicted below top.

Then enter the default placement options in the dialog box like the one below bottom. So the number of cells across and down matches your squares that you filled with images. [My example had 3 images across and only 1 down as shown here.]

Don’t forget to give your picture tube a name before you click on the "OK" button.

Now when you choose the picture tube tool, your very own picture tube will be one of the choices under tool options.
